What We Stand For
Six principles that govern every classroom, every conversation and every decision at Danish Virtual School.
At DVS we believe that character and academic excellence are inseparable. The values below are not a poster on a wall — they are reflected in how teachers give feedback, how students are held accountable, and how parents are communicated with every week.
The DVS character framework
Academic Integrity
Every student's work must be their own. Plagiarism, cheating and misrepresentation are treated as serious breaches with defined consequences. Honest work — even imperfect work — is always celebrated over dishonest excellence.
Intellectual Curiosity
DVS teachers ask students why, not just what. Questioning, debating and going beyond the textbook is expected and rewarded — across every subject.
Respect
Students and teachers treat each other with courtesy in every interaction — in live class, in the portal messenger, and in any written work. Disrespect is not tolerated and is handled formally.
Punctuality
Classes begin on time and attendance is registered. Late arrivals are marked. Deadlines for homework and assessments are real deadlines — not guidelines. This teaches respect for others' time.
Safeguarding
The safety and welfare of every student is non-negotiable. All classrooms are monitored, all staff are vetted, and any welfare concern is escalated through a formal safeguarding protocol immediately.
Excellence
Excellence is not perfection — it is consistent effort to reach one's highest standard. DVS expects students to try their best, seek help when stuck, and never accept mediocrity without challenge.
How our values show up every day
Homework is returned with written feedback — not just a number
Every piece of marked work comes back with written teacher commentary on what was done well and what needs improvement. A grade alone teaches nothing about how to improve.
Attendance is taken every period, every day
Parents see the register within minutes. An unexplained absence triggers a notification the same day, not a weekly summary email.
No informal teacher contact channels are permitted
Teachers do not contact students via personal messaging apps. This protects students and creates professional accountability for every communication.
Student Code of Conduct
Every enrolled student and parent signs the DVS Code of Conduct at the point of enrolment. The Code sets out in plain language what is expected of students, what behaviours are not acceptable, and what the consequences of breaches are.
View School PoliciesWe hold teachers to the same values
Constructive feedback on every piece of work
Minimum standard: written comments returned within 5 working days of submission.
On time for every class
Classroom opens 5 minutes before class start. Students waiting for a late teacher is not acceptable.
Clear lesson objectives
Every class begins with stated objectives. Students know what they are being taught and why.
Respond to portal messages within 24 hours
Parent and student queries via the portal messenger are acknowledged by the next working day.
The parent's role in our community
DVS parents are partners, not customers. We ask parents to support the school's standards at home — to ensure the student attends class, submits homework on time, and is respectful in all communications. In return, DVS commits to transparency, honesty and rapid communication.
DVS does not pass students to preserve parent satisfaction. Honest reporting, even when it contains difficult news, is fundamental to our integrity.
